I haven't had a bad group yet for FoW but plenty of crappy ones for UW i play as a protection monk mos of the time called 'A Wang'.
i joined a group and the healing monk started with 'Don't take A Wang he's a korean farming monk, he's a 55build' while i'm typing my respose the guy left the group.
1. I'm not korean.
2. I'm called A Wang cause i'm immature (same reason for my guild being SARS).
3. I'm from essex in england.
4. I shift hit my healh bar which was 416hp at the time to show everyone.
My group went on to finish several quests in FoW before dieing to the 'foresty' bit and i got 4 shards (yay me).
-------------------------
I find that a lot of groups will listern to the monk but can i ask what districts your on Ruin? as i see on here alot of talk about rangers not getting groups but it only seems to be the american servers this happens on.
My ranger that i started recently hasn't had a problem getting a group and even at Iron mines i got in a random group in 5 minutes at level 15.
I'm not saying that it's just american players but i think somethings like monks getting 'res me' & 'heal me' seems to happen a lot more due o number of players, as i have only had one person type 'heal me' (In 150 hours of play with my monk) and he did it once before the rest of the group jumped down his neck.

every group that i go with into FoW made it pass the first quest. In fact, one group got as far as to the cave with those crazy spiders. Hope you can finally get a good group there, in fact, i'll team up with you if you want!

Wang is actually more Chinese than Korean. And I use "more" to be safe - I haven't seen one Korean by the last name of "Wang" so far, and I live in a pretty Asian area of NJ.

I'd love to find a good group for FoW or UW... I haven't even tried yet, because of all the horror stories.
... Wait a sec, that's not quite true... There was this one time, when I had my level 17 unascended Ele get an invite from a someone who was relying on another group member to translate for them as they didn't speak english... That kinda dissuaded me from persueing that avenue for the time being...

Finding a good group can be difficult... try to start some groups instead of joining and make sure the people will listen. I personally have made over 500 FoW runs and can't remember the last time I have not cleared at least 3/4 of all the enemies. All it really takes is 1 leader (usually the most experienced FoW player) and other people that listen. My builds usually look like this as I have found this build to be most effective.
1 warrior/ dmg not stace (me)
2 healers and 1 bonder (1 monk will always leave)
1 shutdown mesmer
1 interuption ranger
1 curses necro (brings blood ritual)
1 air or fire ele

My advice? Try profiling them beforehand. I dont mind the *inexperienced* player much (as long as theyre willing to listen...) Signs to watch out for:
Impatient ppl.
Wammos yelling "go go go"
Monks who wont respond to a query as to if they are currently using an invincimonk build.
No team communication
No designated caller.
Anyway, sorry to hear of your folly. I myself have had bad experiences down there, but finally found an awesome group and group build. Don't worry, your time will come

lol.. my brother wanted me to help him get part of his Fissure armor, so we ended up getting a PUG group together to fill-out our party. Due to the group we had, we ended up getting three monks (I was on heal, another was all prot, and the other said they were "half heal and half protection."). So we got inside and soon found out that the "half n half" monk was actually a 55 hp "invinci-build"... we started asking them question after question (why had they lied, what were they thinking, etc) but they refused to respond. However, they quickly earned the name "Rambo", as they would rush in and aggro groups as quickly as they could, then attempt to "symbol of wrath" them to death, and then promptly die... it started out very annoying, but then became laughable (as we had actually gotten lucky and had a good team otherwise)... "Rambo" would die time after time, soon earning a -60 DP.. finally, we had had enough... the Prot and I played "Rebirth" soccer until "Rambo" finally left... we went on to clear the Forge, but were foiled once our necro caught an Err=7.... good times, though

I've BEEN further before, I've cleared the place before (with my guild when they played), it's just recently that it seems the average skill of the average player has absolutely plummeted. Ugh.

Y'see, the thing is, you really have to have been a monk to truly understand the monk's problems. I can say that none of my characters have ever been a monk's bane, but only because I never used (and finally deleted) my first character (ranger), and my second character was a monk. ANYBODY who has ever played a monk, PvE OR PvP, (and not 55hp monk either), understands how frustrating the various idiocities of people can be. As such, they not only tend to be decent monks themselves, but also usually tend to play their non-monk characters in a non-jerk way (because they darn well know, for example, that a Leeroy tank is really annoying for the healer).
As for Fissure, here are general signs the team might be OK:
- Most of the members are in the same guild. Guilded groups tend (but are not guarenteed) to be better than the average group, because they usually know how to work together. The trouble is getting them to accept you, but as a monk that shouldn't usually be a problem.
- A group composed of buddies. You've probably worked with your buddies before, so that team's very likely to work out better.
- Any group that does not charge headlong straight into fissure as soon as there are 8 people and 1k to go down, unless it's a guild or friend group that already knows its strategy. At the very least, the group should ask if everyone's ready; if it goes down without asking, then I'd suggest leaving.
